Sometimes you feel like you're banging your head against a brick wall. It feels like you're not getting anywhere. It doesn't seem like those you are supposed to be teaching are listening, it doesn't feel like you're making a difference. I'm just a teacher. Not a year coordinator, not a head teacher, not a principal. Heck, now I'm not even on staff...I'm just a casual teacher... Sometimes, actually often, it's a thankless job, but then there are those special moments that make you realise that God really does know what He's doing. You get a glimpse of God's patience and love and perfect timing when you see how He is working in the lives of those He has given you charge over... I got a letter in the mail the other day from a girl I taught nearly 20 years ago. I have been writing to her for the past few months, encouraging her and giving her verses to hold onto. Here is a small part of one of the letters she sent me... 'I know I have said it so many times but you are an inspiration to me and your faith in Jesus will not only "bring you home", it's brought me home too and for that I will be forever grateful. You have given me a spiritual inheritance that I will, in all my years to come, not be able to repay!!' Wow! I haven't done anything special. I didn't do anything huge for this person. I just wrote her a few letters...but I get the awesome privilege of seeing her grow in Christ! Another former student of mine was recently pregnant and was worried that the baby would arrive way too early, as this had happened with her previous baby. I sent her a message letting her know I had been thinking about her and praying for her. She sent back a reply: 'Hi Kim, thank you for all your praying. It's working 😊 30 weeks tomorrow. We weren't sure we would make it that far. Last week the OB was happy that my blood pressure had been stable so we don't need to see him this week. We see him next week. The baby was measuring 1.3kgs last week which is 400grams more than what my previous baby was. We were worried he had stopped growing cause it's been 15 weeks since I put on any weight.💞💞' Since then the baby has been born, at 34 weeks and is doing quite well. Again...nothing special, just encouraging and praying...but God is in the little things too! It encourages me too. Recently, another former student, who is now a primary school teacher, moved to the Gold Coast. She has been looking for work. She sent me a Facebook message asking me if I knew of any work going...Yep...as it happened, there were some jobs going at a school where I have been doing a lot of casual work lately. She applied and was granted an interview. I was working at that school that day and was able to see her before her interview! God appointment? I think so! She doesn't know the outcome of the interview yet, but I know God has a plan for her...she won't be forgotten... Keep praying and encouraging those around you! You don't have to be a pastor or a missionary. God can use you right where you are. I'm so grateful for that! God is so good!!
